Dame Carol Black’s report Working for a Healthier Tomorrow made clear that “good health is good business”.

We are committed to wellness programmes – but only where they are evidence-based and of proven cost-effectiveness.

Where practical we believe these should be delivered in the workplace for greater visibility and uptake.

Well person screening
We recommend only cost-effective, evidence-based screening programmes not already covered by national schemes.

Programmes – usually lasting only a few days – often identify many individuals with undiagnosed hypertension, stress/anxiety, diabetes and high cholesterol.

Early treatment often prevents future complications.

Blood pressure checks and blood tests can usually be carried out at the occupational health unit – saving a trip to the GP practice or local hospital.

Promoting health and
well person screening
‘The business case for promoting and supporting employee health and well-being is becoming increasingly clear. Employers can gain clear benefits in reducing employee turnover and increasing the productivity and engagement of employees.’
